Fall Classic Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Audience Members In the US, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The exciting 11-inning matchup where the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a total 51 million watchers across the US, Canadian, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball stated this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

The Saturday epic game drew 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic game since the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the last Game 7 between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, Game 4 ranked seventh, Game 5 came in 8th, and the third game landed in thirteenth position.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game recorded 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English-language program in the country since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game started at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – where World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – drew 13.1M viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series drew 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen audience growth for two consecutive seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total American average was 16.1M. The total Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09M viewers, an eight percent increase over last year and Fox’s best playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the World Series was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in 16 different tongues.
