The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming early showing last fall.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified staff about this organizational change through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had shown the need for a distinct game identity.
Ismailer expressed that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to satisfy community desires.
This announcement mirrors a comparable step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to contribute to the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the full message from the president's announcement:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just wrapped up your town hall - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a note, I expressed the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and talented developers we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re eager for that relationship to endure.”
Given your hard work and flexibility, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The community feedback from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was informative. It confirmed the promise of a action-packed game but told us we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the necessity for a more distinct vision.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the feedback to consideration and reimagined Project ETHOS with a revitalized goal - one that’s poised to fulfill its potential to our audience.
The trust in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To advance the outstanding development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce the new hire as the latest Lead of 31st Union. Following some time of talks, he comes aboard us on the specified date.
His guidance and background in the competitive gaming genre is considerable, having spent the last 15 years producing and leading some of the most popular series in the industry, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in welcoming Ben next week. We are all looking forward to keep seeing the evolution of the game in the weeks to come.
David
Brinkman currently serves in the role of executive producer and head of production at the renowned studio for their flagship title. He earlier was employed at Treyarch and Activision in multiple development positions on the iconic franchise series, and, earlier in his career, had stints at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Project Ethos was unveiled in last year alongside a public demo. At the time, the developers portrayed the game as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an innovative evolution on the genre."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in live gameplay to match your preferred approach," the official summary explains. "Face the competition with fresh skills, challenges, and challenges that evolve every session. Do you safely extract with your collected items? Alternatively take a risk, gamble everything, and hope your team can secure victory? The decision is up to you."
The game lacks an announced debut schedule or consoles, but fans can anticipate further news as creation advances.
